Weekly Update: 6/8-6/14

I ended up having several double workout days this week. I’m not sure why as I don’t usually have a habit of doing that. It was a nice change of pace though and I certainly feel like I worked hard this week. It’s always nice to change things up a little from time to time so you don’t feel like you are stuck in a rut.

Monday- rest day

Tuesday- 3 miles. I kept putting off this run after work because it was so hot but eventually I just made myself suck it up and go. I was glad that I did. I was able to try out my new and first ever running skirt. I have to admit that it is really comfy and I love all of the pockets! IMG_6846

Wednesday-Track workout in the morning (6x800s). I did the last one in 3:23 which I was pretty proud of.IMG_6851

IMG_6860We decided to go strawberry picking after I got home and got there right when the Orchard opened in hopes of beating the heat. Fresh strawberries are so yummy!

Then my friend asked me to go to a body pump class at her gym. I’ve been wanting to try out body bump for some time now, so I went. It certainly didn’t disappoint. I was hurting afterward!

Thursday- 7.87 total miles

I got an email stating that today was my one year anniversary at Orange Theory Fitness. Yay! I can’t believe that it has been a year already! I’ll never forget that first free class that I took. My husband was out-of-town for work, so my mom was here helping me with Haylie. I went to Orange Theory in the morning and we decided to go to the National Aquarium after. Haylie had to be carried the entire time since she wasn’t really walking at that point and my arms hurt so bad! I decided that I loved it and kept going back.

I ran 3.6 miles with a co-worker before work. She wanted to run with me so she would be motivated to push herself harder. There are so many people out there that I look up to, that motivate and inspire me. It felt really good to be that person for someone else. I will never be the fastest runner out there, but I do the best that I can and I’ve pushed myself harder and further than I ever thought possible. My co-worker said that she heard me talk more and learned more about me while running than the entire time we have worked together. I thought that was pretty amusing. I just feel so comfortable running. It really has become my thing. In that brief before of time I can really live in the moment and nothing else matters. I just wish I could figure out how to apply that feeling to the rest of my life. It’s so easy to get stressed out and overwhelmed in life. I want to enjoy all of it.

Later I ran 4.27 miles with Fleet Feet. It was so hot! We always run 5+ miles but it was a small group tonight and we were all okay with shaving off that last mile. I was especially happy with this decision since I was still hurting from body pump the previous day.

Friday- rest day

Saturday-10.8 total milesIMG_6911

I met up with some of the lovely ladies from my MRTT group (including Tamieka @ Fit Balling Running Mom) for a 5am run. It was smart to try to beat the heat and also nice to explore a new route. We ended up running 6.3 miles then did some core work.

I went into Wegmans to grab a few things then decided that I still had some energy and wanted to run another 10k. I forgot to mention I discovered that morning that my Nathan handheld water bottle had broken. I tried to fix it but didn’t have any luck. I was thinking about purchasing a larger one, just not quite yet. This wasn’t a problem with the early run because we were able to stop back at our cars and I had a giant bottle of my favorite G2 (raspberry lemonade). So I got about 2 miles into my 10k loop and thought I was going to die because it was so hot and humid at that point. I went another quarter of a mile and confirmed that it wasn’t going to happen so I had to give up and turn around. With me not having water, I know it was the smart thing to do. I had also managed to forget my road id so if I did collapse, no one would know who I was. I kept messing around with my music trying to find a song that was motivational enough to keep my going. That’s usually when I know that even if I can physically keep going, I’m mentally done. I ended up running 4.5 miles, for a total of 10.8. It makes me a little crazy that it wasn’t an even 11 miles since I probably could’ve pushed myself that last little bit but all bets are off due to this crazy heat wave.

Later we went to Fleet Feet and I got a new water bottle. Yay! After Haylie took her afternoon nap, we played outside. It actually wasn’t bad in the shade by that time. IMG_6922Sunday- I had this yummy Larabar that I found at Wegmans on Saturday for breakfast. I only wish that I had purchased more than one! Then it was off Orange Theory. I burned a good 550 calories and left feeling tired but good.

IMG_6912The rest of the day was spent doing the usual laundry and general household chores. I feel like I had a pretty good week but I’m looking forward to that rest day tomorrow. Have a wonderful week everyone!

Have you tried body pump? Does anyone know what happened to Spring?!

I can’t believe that you went out for more miles on Saturday!b that humidity was not joke. Good for you listening to your body!

With school out, I am hoping to take the kiddies strawberry picking this week before the heat!

I love body pump. When I belonged to Gold’s, I use to take that class religiously!

Yeah Orange theroy! I wish I could fit that into my budget. I had taken some free classes last year and loved it!

  2. Whoaaaa those 800s!!! 3:23 is amazing – great job!!! And a class afterwards – that’s hardcore! Good job on listening to your body for that Saturday run. The heat is no joke – I watched a friend collapse once post run and had to be rushed to the ER because his kidneys were failing from being dehydrated! I don’t mess with heat!

    1. I totally agree that the heat and humidity have been awful, especially considering it’s not officially summer yet! I hope that your hip is starting to feel better.

  3. Alanna, I’m not sure what happened to Spring, but if you find it could you ask it to stop by here for a little bit? Thank you! 😉 UGH! I have taken several Body Pump classes and I really enjoy them; we have a really affordable gym chain around here (only $20/month for multiple locations) that has those classes, as well as spinning classes. I use the gym and need to start going to those again! We also have an OrangeTheory opening next month; not sure I’ll be able to handle the cost, but I’d love to try it out! You had a GREAT training week! Way to go, girl!

    1. Haha sure thing! My gym is really cheap but doesn’t offer any classes, so I mostly go just to use the treadmill when the weather isn’t cooperating. I spent way more time there this winter than I wanted to with all of the snow that we got. I have the least expensive plan that they offer at Orange Theory. It still isn’t cheap but compared to some of the other specialty places it isn’t as bad. The first class is usually free though so you should totally check it out! Thanks so much, Tara!
