Five Favorite Summer Activities

DC_linkupIt’s the Friday Five with: Cynthia, Mar, and Courtney today! Today’s topic is Five Favorite Summer Activities.

1. Going to the beach- I love the beach! We haven’t really gone since last year when Haylie got sunblock then sand in her eyes so it wasn’t a great experience for anyone. I’m sure as she gets older she will enjoy the beach more. Oddly enough, the closest that I have ever lived to a beach was back home in Pennsylvania. Lake Erie is right there! I try to make it a point to go to Presque Isle whenever we are home during the summer.

2. Watching the fireflies- We don’t see them as much in the city but when we visit my parents during the summer, you can see the entire field across the street is completely lit up with them. I used to love to catch them in a jar (with holes in the lid of course) when I was little, then release them. Fireflies are so fun to watch!

3. Playing outside- Haylie now has a water table, pool and sprinkler to play in. She is pretty good at entertaining herself lately but I had fun splashing around in the pool with her last night.

 4. Strawberry picking- Fresh fruit and veggies are the best! Plus it’s nice to be outside enjoying the weather as a family.

 5. Running- Of course! It may be incredibly hot and humid but I’m not missing that snow or ice one bit!

  1. My favorite summer activity would have to be running in the morning! I’m a high school teacher so I usually have to do the majority of my running after work…until school is over for the year, which happened on Wednesday for me 🙂

    1. It’s so much better to run in the morning during the summer. I usually have to run after work too since I’m a pastry chef and work early. Hooray for your Summer vacation!

  2. Fruit picking-yes!! Fresh fruit is awesome!

    Beach-yes! I wish we lived closer to a beach but looking forward to my trip to Miami in July ;).

    I am not a fan of the pool but the kids are so I suck it up and go-ha!

    Your daughter is too stinking cute!!

      Thanks so much, Tamieka! I got her hair in a ponytail for the first time tonight and I was so excited. It’s the little things.

  3. I love fireflies! I think that’s one of the only bugs I will willingly catch and hold. They’re so cool! And going to the beach is my FAVORITE! I’m planning on taking my first beach trip of the summer this weekend 🙂 I hope Haylie has a better time of it this year! lol

    1. Haha yes! Fireflies and ladybugs are the only ones that I like. All the others are gross! I’ve always been fascinated with fireflies.

      I hope your first beach trip of the summer is awesome and thanks, I really hope Haylie does better at the beach this year too. 🙂

    1. Oh that’s right! We used to call them lightning bugs too! I had forgotten all about that. They are so cool and bring back lots of good memories.

  5. Alanna, I love being outside in the summer, too, even though it is hot; maybe because that’s what I grew up in and I just have such a great feeling when I’m outside, enjoying the summer weather. I can’t wait to go to the lake this summer! Hope you have a great weekend!

    1. Being outside is such a great feeling, especially after the long, cold winter that we had. My daughter loves it too! It’s so much easier to plan what I’m going to wear on my runs too, when I don’t have to worry about how many layers I need. 🙂

  9. I love watching out for fireflies! I do usually forget about them because I can’t find many in the city either, but I love them when I go home to Ohio 🙂
